RACE REPORT #355 - February 21st 2026 (HSnm, APCnm, MPnm)

Four drivers came by to race at FRC's 355th event for three of our long-time classes, Historic Saloon, American Pony Car and Modified Production. Drivers present were Steve, O'Brie, Liam and I. Merryl also came by a bit later in the afternoon and assisted with marshalling as he often does. Unfortunately, because of having house guests for the Carnival season, Peter was unable to participate in the racing and just popped in very briefly.

The racing was competitively run off, with two rounds of races for each of the classes. I had spent a few days setting up and installing a 3D chassis in my Dodge Challenger pony car without realising that, although the class now allows these chassis, it must be designed specifically for the car in question. The one I used was adapted to the Challenger which I have to say took a long time and a lot of work to get both the chassis and the new body mounts and other aspects ready, so that's a bit of a bummer. However it can be set up for our Kitbash class which would allow it to be raced with a change of motor, so I at least still have a class to race it.

We closed things off with a second board meeting refreshment break before packing up.

Another great racing event at FRC despite the again small driver turnout, I was really looking forward to this event to give my Revoslot Mazda RX7 its racing debut. I was also very pleased when I saw that O'Brie had shown up with not only his Revoslot Opel Kadett but his scratchbuilt BMW 320i. Both O'Brie's and my Revoslot cars were converted from their standard anglewinder configuration to inline to make them compliant with the rules for Historic Saloon. We each had a different approach for going about this and although mine works, O'Brie's is really a work of art ! In terms of innovation, Gordon showed up with a very neat and clever design modification of a 3D printed chassis fitted to his Dodge Challenger but the APC rules as written unfortunately didn't allow for this. I've always said that racing is great but fpr me, it's not the only enjoyable aspect of our hobby . Another very enjoyable part of it is working on cars and coming up with ideas and solutions to improve performance. Both O]Brie and Gordon are great inspirations to me in this regard.
I did race the RX7 and was quite satisfied with how it ran, even managing a second place in the first race. O'Brie decided to drive his Datsun 510 in HS and offered Liam the Kadett. Liam did some laps with it (and it looked extremely fast) but decided that he felt more comfortable with his other option, the trusty Capri. Gordon also drove his trusty and very quick Capri .
The racing in all classes was very close and great fun. Congrats to Gordon on winning Historic Saloon and Modified Production outright and to Gordon and Liam on sharing the APC victory with me. Congrats also to Gordon on taking the event's overall victory.
Looking forward to the next event !

* Gordon, I drove the RX7 in both Historic Saloon races so shouldn't get the Diversity Award.
