RACE REPORT #334 - February 15th 2025 (KNnm, VSGTnm, VSPRnm)

Just four drivers were present for our 334th event for our Kitbash, Vintage Sports GT and Vintage Sports Prototype classes. The last time we had so few was on 15th April 2023 back at the original FRC location in Fairways. Seems a lot of those who'd normally attend are getting into the Carnival activities. Despite this, all four had the usual great time which included the usual jokes and ole talk, along with the inevitable few disagreements that didn't change the stress-relieving good time we always have at FRC.

Qualifying was close, with a separation of just 0.3 sec between the four cars in Kitbash, 0.5 sec in Vintage Sports GT and 0.7 sec in Vintage Sports Prototype. We ended up running just two rounds of races, but the racing was so competitive that we had different winners in each of the three class races. There were a few disagreements over some incidents that occurred on track, but we did the "big man" thing and sorted them out without any fist-fights. In the end, each class had a different overall winner, again indicating how close the racing was. The overall event points reflects this with just a 1.3 average point difference between the four drivers.

We now take a Carnival break before setting the date and classes for our next event some time in March.

Two pics to start things off:

Great afternoon as usual of racing at FRC, despite the low driver turnout.
Nice to see two new cars (Gordon's Volkswagen Golf and my BMW 320i), both for Kitbash class turn up and actually race. Gordon had an IR sensor issue with the Golf but was able to sort it out in time for the second race.
All the races were close and the results can attest to this. I had a bodywork issue with my 400Z which slowed me down tremendously in the first race. I went from second place, behind O'Brie's very quick Peugeot 205 at about 18 laps to fourth at the end. At least I finished the race and was able to sort out the problem. I didn't race the car again though as I wanted to give the new 320i its racing 'baptism' in the second Kitbash race. It ran quite well, almost matching the pace of Peter's Zakspeed Escort.
Congrats to Peter and Gordon on winning Kitbash and Vintage Sports Prototype classes respectively. Congrats to Peter on taking the overall honours and also the Index Of Performance award.
Special congrats also to Peter for being the only driver to win a race in all three classes. Well done !!
Looking forward to the next event !
