Guys, based primarily on this post and having done substantial research into the widths of a large cross section of the various cars we race (summarised below), I would like to propose the following amendments to our 2019 class rules.
General (all cars, all classes):
Add to item 1: Excluding rear-view mirrors , no part of car may exceed 66mm width. Where a class specifies a maximum width, rear-view mirrors can be ignored.
Add to item 2: Unless stated for a specific class, add-on fender flaring is not allowed.
Add to item 4: Tyres may extend a maximum of 2mm beyond any fender, provided that maximum width for class is not exceeded.
Historic Saloon:
Add to the general description of the class: 4th Generation FIA Group 5 "Special Production Cars" are not allowed. These are legal for the Modified Production class. You can see a list of these Group 5 cars here: https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Group_5_(racing)
Add to Body: Add-on fender flares no larger than flares added to the same car of the period are allowed.
Vintage Sports GT:
New item: Maximum Width: 62mm.
Vintage Sports Prototype:
New item: Maximum Width: 63mm.
Slot.It Challenge:
New item: Maximum Width: 64mm.
Modified Production:
Add to Body: Add-on fender flaring is allowed.
Please give your feedback for and against any of the points I've raised above. I know that the suggestion to exclude Group 5 cars in particular is a ticklish one, but the intent of the Historic Saloon class was originally for the type of cars seen in saloon and club racing prior to the creation of the "Special Production Cars" seen in Group 5. The highly modified silhouette bodies of Group 5 cars are better suited to our Modified Production class.
