Rally cars

Post by gordon »

Hi Guys,

I know we have a lot of classes already, but I was giving some thought to the idea of a different type of slot racing competition in the form of rally stage racing (otherwise known as rallying :)). Here's the concept:

The cars
  • Rally cars only. These may be rear, front or all wheel drive.
  • Cars must have driver and navigator figures (heads minimum).
  • Motors up to 21,500 RPM (any brand).
  • Any wheels, tyres, axles and gears allowed.
  • No magnets. That's right, absolutely none.
The events
  • Any number of drivers may compete.
  • The rally stage will take place over five laps, one car at a time.
  • Each driver will run the stage three times for the event. Winner will be the driver who completes the three stages in the fastest time.
  • All drivers must complete each stage before moving on to the next round.
  • Drivers shall share marshalling duty when not driving.
Before jumping to conclusions on non-magnet racing, read this:

No-Magnet Racing Tips

So... what are your thoughts on this?

I think the rally car idea is brilliant, even more so because of the 'mag-less' stipulation. Certain 4WD designs might pose a challenge to chip though.

Would be interesting to see how a 4WD car would run with the drive to the rear axle disconnected (in effect, a FWD) !

GG,

I see you went with the 21K instead of the 25K rpm ~ with no magnets, 21K rpm is a good range of power for this new class...

Being one of FRC's main/regular racers - I'm GOOD 2 GO with a (C2341) Subaru 2001 Impreza WRC from Scalextric :D
