Further to informal post-race discussion at the last event on the above topic, here are my thoughts.
Note: Calculations are based on an assumption of an average lap length of 75' and average lap time of 6.0 seconds. This equates to 12.5' /second.
-When racing with marshals, when a car de-slots,if we estimate a time of 2.5 seconds to re-slot, the distance lost to other competitors, assuming no other de-slots, is 12.5 x 2.5 = 31.2' .
-Under the current system, when a car de-slots, my calculation for estimate of the distance lost is as follows:
Reaction time of 1.0 second = 12.5'
Assume some level of coast by other cars =3.5'
Current de-slot penalty = 3.0'.
Total distance lost is sum of the above, = 31.2'.
The difference in distance lost between the marshal and non-marshal scenario is approximately 12.0'.
My proposal is to add this 12' to the current 3.0', therefore to make it 15.0'.
Please note that even this might be conservative, as re-slot times by marshals is sometimes significantly more than 2.5 seconds.
What are your thoughts ?

De-slot penalty
Re: De-slot penalty
Sorry, in post above, distance lost under current system is 19.0', not 31.2'.
31.2' is distance lost when marshaled.
Steve
31.2' is distance lost when marshaled.

Re: De-slot penalty
I trust your calculations and fully agree.
Re: De-slot penalty
Should we also be looking at the drive-through penalty?
Re: De-slot penalty
I agree the 15’ penalty makes sense. On the drive through issue we could do the same for the offender but as we all know it is sometimes difficult to determine “Who done it!” How difficult would it be to film all races for the stewards to review if the drive through is contested? That would eliminate all doubt in the future! Maybe someone with a bit of an “electronics” brain can figure out a cheep and effective way to do this and some of the more spectacular competitive races can be used as post on the website in an effort to increase the participation
Re: De-slot penalty
I think that we should also revise the drive-through penalty. The penalty for a drive-through infringement in a race with marshals is just that, a drive through the pits. An entire lap is lost in the process. The current scenario is, I think, too lenient. One thought I have if th have the offending driver go back to just ahead of the start/finish line. That way, he doesn't lose a whole lap as he doesn't go through the pits but, depending on where the infringement occurs, the penalty could be significant.
Re: De-slot penalty
Hi guys i will agree with Steve,s suggestion to have the penalty of 15 ft on crashes and drive through as well. Lets see how it goes.Bye.
Re: De-slot penalty
15feet both offense.
