RACE REPORT #253 - June 7th 2018 (MP, RGT, RLMP)

Our fastest race night saw six drivers and one observer in Peter attending FRC's Modified Production (MP), Restricted GT (RGT) and Restricted LMP (RLMP) races. These are our speediest classes and they once again lived up to their reputation for quick laps. There was a lot of close action on the track and some very hairy high-speed trafic which on occasion resulted in spectacular crashes. At the previous event Richard took part in the Rally stages, but this time he got a full taste of six-car digital racing amongst intense competition and he was not fazed by it at all. It looks like we have a future winner in the fray.

There were cars aplenty present. I myself had just the cars I specifically prepared for the event. Here's a pic from early in the evening with them in the paddock:

Steve had a larger selection - eight cars, here arranged by the three classes to be raced, MP, RGT and RLMP:

By far the largest number of cars present belonged to the O'Brien stable, a total of fifteen cars of several different classes which he brought along for testing:

The only ones missing which were to arrive later were Ramesh's always-quick machines for the evening. The stage was set for an exciting night of very fast racing!

Modified Production starting grid. My Zakspeed Capri leapfrogged Ramesh's Alfa 156 to set a new class all-time lap record and take pole. Its followed by Ramesh's Opel Calibra, his second Calibra driven by Luke, Steve's BMW 320i, O'Brie's 320i and his Subaru Impreza driven by Richard:

Thanks guys for yet another great night of racing , its a feeling that you cannot get enough of, i really did enjoy the close racing in all classes especially in restricted gt as i was searching for some more boost. Congrats to Gordon on winning all three pole positions, it says a lot, for your preparation has paid off. To Steve , Obre , LukeT and Richard , thanks for your company making racing enjoyable . Bye.

Great stuff guys! A truly great night of racing. My right index finger will need some physio for sure. Congrats G you really had a great lineup last night. I look forward to the next meeting :D

Other than the regular “well structured” FRC slot-car racing activities and how I didn’t prepare any of my own model cars for ... I must mention there’s always an atmosphere of warm and supporting friendship amongst the (all new and not so new) guys. Mixed with positive comments, slotcar tuning ideas, good “clean” jokes plus uplifting (no fight-down) attitudes during competitive racing competitions.

That said - there were a number cool comments, tuning ideas, clean jokes and uplifting attitudes (by all present) during the 253rd FRC racing event :)

Great night of racing as usual at FRC.
Was nice having a full grid for two of the classes raced as well as having a marshal in attendance (Peter) for part of the proceedings. Enjoyed racing over the twenty five lap distance which, with these fast cars, didn't take too long at all.
Congrats to Gordon on winning Restricted GT and to Ramesh for winning everything else.
Looking forward to the next event .

Hi Steve i would just like to mention your good sportsman like behavior in one of the races where the placing might have been incorrect, as Luke T , mention the company and competitive spirit was uplifting.Thanks guys have a great week.

Guys, I received this comment from Richard in an email yesterday evening. He has not yet completed his registration on the FRC forum, so I'm including it here for him:
Exciting and competitive racing as always at Fairways Racing Complex. Permit me to echo the sentiments of the comrades/drivers/sportsmen, but to highlight one of the outstanding individuals from among us whom I have known since the 70s in Ramesh Bhola. I say this to mention his use, and a good reason for knowing the rules of the sport, leveraging toward victory in one of the stages in the restricted GT by pitting the car he drove in the other stages for , in my opinion an equally fast Mc Laren starting at the back of the grid. This afforded him the opportunity to be moved to the inner circuit for the start and to shift me to the outer circuit; forcing me to learn the importance of the proper use of the lane-change. I laughed internally, but was cussin mentally.
