New Sportsman classes

FRC is introducing two "incentive" classes to encourage new drivers. These classes should be particularly attractive to current TSCC analog racers as they will likely have no more to do than add a simply-installed Digital Plug Ready (DPR) chip, a one-minute operation. Reversing the process to run in analog mode is just as simple. The classes were chosen because these classes are currently already raced by TSCC members.

American Pony Car Sportsman (APCS)
For slot models of American "Pony Cars" that took place in the Trans-Am series between 1966 and 1972, such as the Boss Mustang and Camaro. (Standard and rules-compliant modified Scalextric and Pioneer Pony Cars are legal for this class, but must meet the magnet requirements below.)

• Period: 1966-1972.
• Body: Must be modeled after American "Pony Cars" that took place in the Trans-Am series 1966-1972. Fender modifications not allowed. Wheels and tyres must not be visible when viewing body from above. Windows may not be tinted - interior must be visible.
• Chassis: Standard for the particular model.
• Minimum Ground Clearance: 1.0 mm / 0.040".
• Interior: Full interior as standard for the particular model, however this may be altered if necessary, but only to the extent required to install digital chip.
• Motor: Any non-high-downforce motor not exceeding 21,500 RPM, based on manufacturer's specifications.
• Gearing: Standard axle gear for the particular model. Pinion gear may be changed.
• Magnets: Single Scalextric or Pioneer bar magnet up to 2.5 mm thick. Magnet must be positioned at least 50 mm ahead of rear axle. (This corresponds with the front magnet location of Scalextric-brand Pony Cars which have a front magnet position.)
• Wheels: Standard for the particular model.
• Axles: Standard for the particular model.
• Tyres: Type of tyre is free. Front tyre minimum diameter: 17 mm on wheel. Rear tyre minimum diameter: 19 mm on wheel. Rear tyre maximum tread width: 8 mm (excluding sidewall).

Summary: A 1966-1972 American Pony Car with a single 2.5 mm magnet in frontmost position, 1.0 mm ground clearance and 21.5K or less motor.


GT Sportsman (GTS)
For Scalextric sidewinder slot models of two-door cars which compete in GT racing, such as the Ferrari F430 and Lamborghini Gallardo.

• Period: 1976 onwards.
• Body: Must be modeled after a two-door car which competes in GT racing. Fender modifications not allowed. Wheels and tyres must not be visible when viewing body from above. Windows may be tinted so as not to reveal the cockpit.
• Chassis: Standard for the particular model (sidewinder configuration only).
• Minimum Ground Clearance: 1.0 mm / 0.040".
• Interior: Full interior as standard for the particular model, however this may be altered if necessary, but only to the extent required to install digital chip.
• Motor: Any non-high-downforce motor not exceeding 21,500 RPM, based on manufacturer's specifications.
• Magnets: Single Scalextric bar magnet up to 2.5 mm thick positioned ahead of motor.

Summary: A Scalextric sidewinder GT Car with a single 2.5 mm magnet, 1.0 mm ground clearance and 21.5K or less motor.

Is there a reason why the GTS chassis should be sidewinder configuration only ..

Luke, I had initially suggested a 2.5 mm bar magnet in any location, but when I sent the specs to Ramesh, he advised that we limit the magnet location to just ahead of the motor and sidewinder chassis only to keep it simple. Apparently this is the configuration raced at TSCC.

Thanks for the support here guys, we ran our RGT and R MUSCLE. class last Thursday and used those rules , we had 2 heats with 8 drivers. after quali. the first place car was only ,9 sec faster than the 8th place car, the top 3 cars had one hundredth of a sec separating them,very close racing. lets hope some of the new guys can see this set up as an opportunity to race in this sportsman class.
