Race report #81 - Thursday 14th July, 2011

Post by gordon »

Hi Guys,

Seven drivers and a few helpers turned up for American Muscle, GT and LMP racing at FRC's 81st official event. It was good to see Brent back although that was bad news for everyone else since his always extremely fast cars looked to have everyone competing for second place. Despite this, Kyle put his brand new red Boss Mustang on pole in AM, I managed to do the same in GT with my Ferrari F430, while Brent got the best time in LMP with his Jaguar XJR9.

Brent looked to dominate AM with wins in the first two races, but had some misfortune in the third race. Kyle's initial potential was thwarted when a collision damaged the Mustang's rear axle bearing seating causing him to retire from the first race. Dougie's long-standing dominance in AM came to an end when his Camaro was able to do no better than second place, while I was able to win the final race with my Mustang.

There was a phenomenal battle in the GT races which was predictable after qualifying which had all seven entries separated by less than half a second. After the first two races it was a win and a second place for both Brent and I, the class win being decided in the final race. LMP in particular brought out some problems with the track, with several low-power/dead areas around the lap. This didn't stop Brent from winning his third race in succession, having win the first AM and GT races. Unfortunately for him, this first LMP race had to be scratched as the results were cleared off the Power Base in error before they were recorded. Luke was the ultimate winner in LMP after Brent had a bad result in the final race.

We finished off around 11:00 PM, giving everyone an earlier-than-expected opportunity to hit the sack.
