Race report #79 - Wednesday 29th June, 2011

Post by gordon »

Hi Guys,

Our first event in four weeks saw seven drivers competing in Restricted GT, Slot.It Challenge and F1. Two of these were our always welcome guests from abroad, Peter and Ray. I had changed the race night from the usual Thursday to Wednesday (much to Boo's distress as he was coming in from work on Thursday morning) as the result of a plea from Shane who has difficulty attending on Thursdays. Well we kept looking out for Shane but he never showed or called, so some of the guys suggested reviewing his FRC Super-License :D

Prior to the start of the first race I was surprised when Luke produced a large box wrapped in paper that clearly and repeatedly stated "Happy Birthday" and proceeded to gather round everyone and present it to... me! The attached card had kind and warm messages from many FRC regulars (and a few less-regular - when are you guys coming back to race?) which I certainly appreciate. Opening the box revealed five new Scaley Lamborghinis (with a picture-promise of a sixth) mounted on a board just like the one that holds the six Porsche Cup cars (thanks to Luke). Thank you for this guys! We will now have another "stock" one-make class to challenge one another and add hours of fun to our collective FRC experience.

Coming back to the racing, qualifying showed that we'd have another competitive night ahead of us. Luke took pole in both Restricted GT and Slot.It Challenge, while Dougie took the honor in F1. In the races however, things worked out somewhat different as is quite often the case. One thing that was certain - just about everyone got some exercise doing self-marshaling table laps, with perhaps Ray taking the prize for building up the most sweat, closely followed by Luke

We closed shop around midnight after another night of fun, drinks and friendly banter with great company.

Congratulations to all the winners and particularly to Ray on his Index of Performance win. Its always nice to see you "foreign" drivers do well as I know you seldom get the chance to race at FRC.

Next event's classes: Porsche Cup, Historic Saloon, Vintage Sports - see the regulations here.

See you on the circuit...
