Rally regs and points system

Guys,

I think I was a bit early coming off the line with the sudden change in the Rally class regulations without first getting the feedback and discussion that we usually have in these matters. I also have another proposal which I will mention here.

That said I'm putting it to you to suggest what, if any, changes should be made to the Rally class regulations based on what they were before I made the change. When I made the change, I was doing the usual thing that I try to do, "please all the people, all the time". Sometimes this is not the best approach or even possible.

As I see it, we can choose to do one of these things for the Rally class:

1. Leave the class as it was before breaking it into Groups A and B.
2. Drop the Groups A and B, but require that all cars pass the 45º rule to be legal.
3. Retain the Groups A and B change.
4. Something else I can't think of which you may suggest.

Once we have your feedback, I can always do a poll where we'll decide by democratic process.

The second thing I want to mention applies to all our classes. Here's the current point system we use (keep in mind that we currently require a minimum of 3 starters for a race/stage):

• 1st - 9 points
• 2nd - 6
• 3rd - 4
• 4th - 3
• 5th - 2
• 6th - 1

This applies regardless of the number of race/stage starters. I feel that the points given to someone who wins against 5 other competitors should be higher than the points given when he races against only 2 other competitors. This is particularly important when we consider the annual class championships where points for a given class for each event during the year are accumulated. So I'm proposing that we change the system to the following:

Hi Gordon,
I'm in full agreement with the proposed points system. As far as the rally class goes, I think that the 45 deg. rule should definitely be instituted but still have to give some thought as to whether it should be used to (1)separate the cars into Group A and Group B or (2) determine the legality of all cars for 1 rally class.
By the way, any racing this week ?

I know my car was out of class, however not illegal.
Having two groups really does not make much sense. That means more money etc.
Why don't we discuss this at the next race meeting.

Points system is interesting.
